NAV - the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Service

The Norwegian Labour and Welfare Service plays a broad participatory role in the world of work and society, and contributes to the financial security of the individual. This depends on close interaction with the user, working life and local authorities, and a sharper focus on people with special needs in relation to the labour market and others in a challenging life situation.

Vision: We provide people with opportunities!

This vision reflects three fundamental social functions that the Service must ensure:

  1. Job opportunities for as many people as possible.
  2. The opportunity of meaningful activity for those with special needs.
  3. The opportunity for secure income in accordance with rights enshrined in legislation.

NAV EURES

EURES (European Employment Services) is a cooperation network formed by public employment services. Trade unions and employers' organisations also participate as partners. The objective of the EURES network is to facilitate the free movement of workers within the European Economic Area (EEA) (the 27 members of the European Union, plus Norway and Iceland) and Switzerland.

The purpose of EURES is to provide information, advice and recruitment/placement (job-matching) services for the benefit of workers and employers as well as any citizen wishing to benefit from the principle of the free movement of persons.

EURES offers a network of advisers that can give information, help and assistance to jobseekers and employers through personal contacts. EURES advisers are trained specialists who provide the three basic EURES services of information, guidance and placement, to both jobseekers and employers interested in the European job market. There are more than 700 EURES advisers across Europe and the number is growing.
